In 2021, I ran into a statistic that blew my mind: Only 2% of the investments in tech startups go to startups founded by women. In Europe, it’s less than 1 percent.
To learn more, I started investigating the reasons why, and I decided to share the results of my investigation with everyone via a podcast and a blog about the women who are disrupting the tech industry.
That was the start of Women Disrupting Tech.
The Goal
The goal of Women Disrupting Tech is to change the narrative and improve the representation of women in tech by providing a platform where their voices are heard and their achievements are celebrated.
The Why
So, why would a bald white guy in his fifties care about diversity in tech? Let me give you three reasons:
- More diversity leads to better products, more productive teams, and better (financial and non-financial) results. So, I think it is time to educate other men that they’re simply selling themselves short.
- More diversity is not about having more women or other exceptional (I hate ‘underrepresented’) people in tech. It is about allowing your partner, your children, your neighbors, and your colleagues to be their best selves.
- Just because I can. I recently heard someone say that ‘privilege is leverage.’ And I feel that I have an obligation to use my privilege to make an impact on the lives of the people around me.
The What
Podcast Episodes: Dive into the podcast, where I discuss diverse topics like AI, financial inclusion, gaming, and more, all from the perspective of women leaders in tech and the men who support them.
Blog: The blog features interviews with female startup founders, venture capitalists, and tech innovators who are breaking barriers and making significant impacts in tech.
Community & Support: With the blog, the podcast, and the events, I want to build a supportive community that encourages women to pursue and thrive in tech careers.
The Women Disrupting Tech Podcast
The podcast features women making waves in the tech industry and discusses their journeys, challenges, and successes. Some of the notable female founders of tech startups that I interviewed include:
- Arosha Brouwer, CEO and co-founder of Quan, a startup that helps managers and teams improve employee well-being and prevent burnout.
- Jacqueline van den Ende, CEO and co-founder of Carbon Equity. Carbon Equity provides a platform for high-net-worth individuals and other qualified investors to invest in Climate Tech startups and scale-ups.
- Puck Landewé, founder of Fintech startup Elfin. Elfin is the financial coach that helps 1 million women become financially independent.
You can listen to and subscribe to the podcast on Spotify, Apple, Goodpods, and YouTube.
The Blog
On the blog, you can find show notes with the bios of each of my guests. These include links to their profiles and websites, as well as background information on the funding of female founders of tech startups.
